Training and skills

The right qualifications, for the right people and the right projects.

Nagano lets you define required training, track its completion and the skills acquired by research team members, while anticipating the applicable deadlines.

Conceptual illustration of a completed training attesting a skill, linked to a person, their team, the research project and its deadline.

Configurable training

Training adapted to your institution's requirements.

The institution defines the training that matters for its research activities: it classifies it by type, structures it into sub-trainings where needed and sets, for each one, its validity and reminders.

  • Training types

Trainings are grouped by type, and each type states whether members may declare a completed training themselves.

  • Trainings and sub-trainings

A training can be split into sub-trainings, and some trainings can be specific to a project.

  • Documents and instructors

Documents can accompany a training, and instructors can be associated with it when the training calls for them.

Sample catalogue

  • Clinical research

    Member self-declaration
    • Good clinical practice Valid for 3 years
      • Initial training
      • Refresher
  • Ethics and information protection

    Added by a manager
    • Research ethics No expiry
    • Personal information protection Fixed date

Illustrative example: types and trainings are defined by each institution.

Targeted requirements

The right requirements, by role and by project.

Required training can be associated with a project type, and refined according to the function held in the project. Each team member thus sees the training that applies to their role, and managers see the status of the team's requirements.

Project type

  • Clinical trial (selected)
  • Retrospective study
  • Multicentre project

Function in the project

  • Principal investigator
  • Research coordinator (selected)
  • Research assistant

Required training

  • Good clinical practice
  • Research ethics
  • Personal information protection

An overview of the team

See the skills acquired and the requirements to renew.

For each research team member, Nagano matches the required training against completed training, and tells apart what remains valid from what is approaching or past its deadline.

Managers can thus spot what needs to be completed or renewed, without losing sight of the skills already acquired.

Sample research team

  • Julie Dubois

    Principal investigator

    • Good clinical practice Valid
    • Research ethics Valid
    • Personal information protection To renew
  • Marc Lavoie

    Research coordinator

    • Good clinical practice Valid
    • Research ethics To renew
    • Personal information protection To complete
  • Sophie Perrier

    Research assistant

    • Good clinical practice To complete
    • Research ethics Valid
    • Personal information protection Valid
  • Acquired / valid Completed training whose validity is current.
  • Acquired / to renew Acquired skill whose deadline is approaching or has passed.
  • To complete Required training with no recorded completion.

Validity and deadlines

Anticipate training deadlines.

Each training sets its validity: no expiry, for a given length of time or until a fixed date. The deadline is calculated from the completion date, and a renewal is recorded as a new cycle, keeping the history.

  • No expiry
  • Validity period
  • Fixed date

When the institution configures them, reminders can be sent to participants and designated people before the deadline.

Sample cycle

Research ethics

  1. Training completed

The completion is recorded and the skill is acquired.

  2. Current validity

The training meets the applicable requirements.

  3. Possible deadline

According to the set length or fixed date.

  4. Renewal

A new cycle is recorded; the previous one stays in the history.

An expired training does not mean a lost skill: only its validity against the requirements needs to be renewed.

Supervised validation

Tracking supervised by training managers.

Depending on the training type, a member can declare a completed training themselves and attach supporting evidence. Training managers can then approve or refuse it, and the person is notified of the decision.

Declaration

By the member, if the training type allows it.

Supporting evidence

A certificate or attached document, where needed.

Possible validation

Approval or refusal by a training manager.

Completion recorded

The completed training counts in the tracking.

A training added directly by a manager does not need to be validated. Permissions and steps depend on the institution's configuration.
